Grounded

We recently purchased a colonial-style farmhouse surrounded by beautiful trees and landscape. Our house has such character that I’m constantly finding new features in the house that I haven’t noticed before. I am truly grateful for God’s blessing and even more in awe of the plans that He has for me and those who follow after him (Jeremiah 29.11).

Our house was built in 1974, and we often hear of people describing our property as having good bones. The structure and foundation of a house are important because it is what keeps the property together. If you expect to live in a house that will not fall to pieces every time the wind blows, then you have to invest in a property that was built to handle whatever may come its way.

Likewise, our relationship in Christ must be the same. God’s word reminds us in Matthew 7:24-27 that we have to be like the wise man who built his house on the rock. Our faith must remain unshakeable and solid in Christ. We see the storms, and we feel the strong winds blowing. How do we remain stationary while surrounded by sinking sand?

Are you Grounded?

  1. Ground Yourself in Christ – If you have accepted Christ as your Savior you are already standing on a firm foundation. A life without Christ is a life of sinking sand. Only God can provide the stability that you will need when you are faced with the storms of life. (Colossians 2:7)
  2. Ground Yourself in His word – When we read God’s word, He will give peace to our minds while we are going through challenging situations. God’s word gives us the comfort and reassurance that we need to understand that we are not alone. God is with us. (Psalms 119:105)
  3. Ground Yourself in Prayer – Communing with God in prayer during this season is so important. Prayer is vital in our walk with Christ. We serve a God who seeks to be in a relationship with us. Prayer is a way in which we can connect intimately with Him. (Psalms 63: 1-5)

Prayer

Dear Lord,

I am so grateful for your goodness and your mercy. Your compassion fails not. Lord, I pray that you will help me to build my house on a firm foundation in Christ. Please help me to be ground in you and your ways, grounded in your word, and grounded through prayer.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

    1. If there was ever a time to know if you’re grounded or not, surely these uncertain times will let you know if where you stand in your faith, lifestyle and commitment. Well said, Pam!
