You’re Still Here

The other day I felt the need to slow down from all of the ripping and running that has been taking place every weekend. I was determined to draw a bubble bath and soak in the silence. I needed to hear the Lord. I needed to be still. I needed to rest.

So in preparing for my quiet time, I gathered my bath oils and bubble bath and everything that I needed to make this a moment for me. I told my family “Do Not Disturb” and closed my door. Sometimes you have to create those moments for yourself.

I admit it took me a while to slow my mind down from all of the thoughts circulating in my head like a merry go round. My mind went from one place to another. I could feel myself getting ready to let the water out so that I could get to some of the things on my list. But each time I felt the need to let the water drain, I felt a tug to sit. So I sat. Waiting and trying to relax my mind. Finally, in a breath, I heard the Lord say to me, “You’re still here.”

What did he mean by that? I sat going deeper into my thoughts and listening for more. Gently, he reminded me that with each beat of my heart, there is purpose. There is a purpose for each day that I have left. There is a purpose in each step that I take towards achieving my goals. I can continue to get caught up with the “list” of things that are deemed to be important, or I can slow down and remember my purpose and put things back into perspective that matter.

What about you? Do you find that during this pandemic, your worlds are colliding? Work and home; homeschooling and working; date nights and staycations are all happening under one roof? No wonder you find yourself run down and simply left feeling empty; I know I have. Some days, I am exhausted and I haven’t even left the house!

However, I must confess that I feel the most energized when I do something that has to do with my purpose in life. Once I start writing, or journaling or jotting down some thoughts from prayer, I feel inspired all over again. Why? Because God’s well never runs dry. We can always go to him and be restored. We can draw from Him what we need so that our cups can be filled and running over and also be a blessing to others.

Look at the woman at the well in John chapter 4. She was hoping to be fulfilled and fully satisfied by the multiple men in her life, but she wasn’t. She remained thirsty, looking for someone to take the feeling of emptiness away. One day she went out to draw water from a well. She met a man that would change her life in an instance. The Man who knew her better than herself. The one who knew there was purpose in her drawing water at a time when she wasn’t supposed to. He began to reveal what no one else knew about her. She wasn’t offended or afraid. Instead, she was intrigued. She stayed there talking to Jesus until she understood who he was. The more He spoke to her empty soul, the more fulfilled she became.

This woman went out to get drinking water and in return, she was filled with living water. Her life changed. She went back to her home as a witness to show what Christ did for her.

Like the woman at the well, we have to allow God to fill us with His living water. His water can only feed and satisfy our soul. God’s living water brings us to our purpose in life. God’s living water keeps us coming back to him. When we drink from Him, we will never be thirsty again.

If we walk in our purpose and not get distracted by lists or things that have nothing to do with what we need to do, then we can begin to make an impact on our journey. Every once in a while we may get sidetracked, but the point is not to stay there. Don’t get caught up in every day of life. Get back on track. This is the season to get things done.

If you don’t know what your purpose is or if you’re finding that you don’t have a clear direction in which way you should be going, then seek the Lord. His word is light until your path. His Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth. The truth of your purpose.

Give him the time he needs so that he can remind you that he has kept you here for his calling and his purpose. Go inward and find the joy that you need to continue on this journey called life.

Be blessed. Please like, share, and follow this blog.

  2. This truly blessed me. I think you captured what a lot of us are feeling during this time. There is so much going on in the world and in my life that I forget to take a moment to breathe. To just BE – without the responsibility to complete a task or answer to someone. It is important to slow down long enough to hear from God. Thanks for the reminder and the encouragement!
