When you’re a mom of three boys, you have to prepare yourself for rough play, skinned knees, and bruised elbows. My boys love all things outdoors. They love to ride bikes, climb trees, and have nerf-gun wars. During any one of these activities, someone is bound to fall and hurt themselves. They will scrape their knee or do something that will bring them to tears. When I see them hurting, even if it is for a few seconds, it hurts me, too. I make sure they have everything that they need to recover like bandaids, ice packs and even a couple of hugs and kisses on the forehead. I assure them that they are okay. I help them to get back to what they were doing. Eventually, they begin to run, jump and tackle like nothing ever happened.
When we physically hurt ourselves on the outside, others can notice our ailment right away. They can see the blood. They can see the bandages and the anguish you may be experiencing because of what happened. You can be attended to and comforted because of what is seen. But what do you do when your pain is hidden? What happens when no one can see your cuts or bruises? What do you do when your bleeding goes unnoticed and you feel as if you have nothing left? You’re screaming inside, yet no one hears you. What do you do?
In Mark 5:25, we find a woman who had an issue of blood for twelve long years. The Bible says that she had exhausted all of her money and resources and still was not healed of her infirmity. She continued to press even in the face of dealing with so much inwardly. Moving in pain, embarrassment, and shame, she continued to press because she knew Jesus was near. Although the crowd grew, her desperate state propelled her reach out and grab hold to the hem of Jesus’ garment. As soon as she touched Jesus’ garment, “straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up.”
Are you going from person to person looking for something that only Jesus can heal? Are you exhausting all of your time and resources into something or someone instead of drawing close to Jesus? Who or what is in the way of you getting to Him? How desperate are you? How badly do you want to be healed from the inside out? Do not be deceived, He is the only one who can heal our most inner wounds. When we press into Jesus, He has the power to dry up whatever is trying to drown us. Do not drown in your sorrows or pain. Do not drown in your blood. Go inward to the secret place of prayer. He will be there waiting for you. Reach out and touch Him and be healed.
This blessed an encouraged me today!
