The Lord gave me a dream about a person who kept covering things up with other things. There were many different scenes during the dream, but the same thing kept happening. When I woke up, I wrote the dream down in my journal. I prayed and asked the Lord about the different scenes and the meaning of the dream.
I knew what my dream meant to me, but I wasn’t sure how to convey the message to others. I begin to imagine a person that is involved in many activities throughout their day. The person’s body becomes covered in dirt and also has a bad body odor. The person never showers. Instead, they spray perfume and leave the house wearing different clothes. While their outward appearance is clean, their body is filthy. The only way to remedy this problem to clean their body.
What scent are we offering to the Lord? Psalms 24:3-4 says “Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands and a pure heart; who hath not lifted his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.”
My dream was about repentance. People were covering up their sins by doing good. This continued throughout the dream and they never confessed their sins to the Lord. They continued to live life as normal. However, the sins were piling on top of one another. 1 John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The first thing we have to do is confess. We cannot continue to live our lives as if nothing happened. We also cannot repent on a surface level. Repentance on a surface level does not get to the root issue. If we sit in his presence and allow the Holy Spirit to examine us, he will reveal to us how to bring about change in our hearts. This is true repentance.
To dig deeper, we have to ask the hard questions. What are you seeking? Why do you find yourself in the same situation month after month? What is the root cause? Only the Lord can reveal when you unveil. You have to unveil your heart to him and allow him to do the work that is needed to bring about true change.
The enemy uses whatever he can to bring about division between you and God. The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. He is waiting for you to fall short and when he seems opportunity, he moves to intend to devour you.
Yes, we all sin and fall short of the glory of God, but we cannot continue to go about our day as if sin did not occur. The Lord wants us to confess our sins and then we will see his faithfulness in forgiving us. Not only will he forgive us because he’s a just God, but he will cleanse us. He’s a good father. I”m reminded of a young child who is being bathed by their father. Their father takes delight in cleansing his child. He takes delight in presenting him in the best way. It’s the same with our Savior. He wants us to be in right standing with Him. He doesn’t want anything to separate us. Paul said it this way in Romans 8:35, 38-39, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” He goes on to say, “For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
If this is your prayer as well, then we have to confess our sins. We have to sincerely confess our wrong-doings and get back in right standing with the Lord. He is waiting with open arms to forgive us and cleanse us. He’s our father and he delights in us. He loves us so. When we do this, we will begin to see his beauty in us. We will hear his voice. We will feel lighter and experience the true presence of the Lord. When we sit at his feet, he will remind you of things that you did or said that wasn’t right in his eyes. He will examine you and reveal to you those areas that he wants so badly to heal if we will let him. He will make you better. He will heal your weary soul. He will heal your hurting place. He will restore you. Will you let him? Will you confess your sins to him? Will you unveil your heart to him so that he can cleanse you and use you for his glory? Go inward, confess your sins, unveil your heart, and watch the Lord work in your life.
Say this prayer with me, “Dear Jesus, I acknowledge you as my Lord and Savior of my life. I confess my sins to you. (If you know what you did, begin to confess those things. If you don’t know, the Holy Spirit will reveal to you what you need to confess.) Please forgive me. Please cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Change my heart and keep me in right standing with you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
