I recently had a dream that I was caught in a terrible storm. I believe it was a tornado. I can remember watching the clouds change and feeling worried that I wouldn’t be able to get to my husband and children in time. I drove into a shopping center and I could see the storm clouds lowering. It was almost like a tornado was about to form. Such a feeling of panic came over me and I didn’t believe that I could make it to shelter. I got out of my car and I started yelling “Help” with everything in me. In the midst of me running towards cover, I continued to shout “Help”. It became my prayer. Suddenly, the sky opened up and the clouds moved away. The sun came out and I woke up.
Just like my dream, you may feel that you are in a terrible storm of life and that you are unable to escape what is headed towards you. You may feel that you are pressed on all sides and that you have no relief. The minute you finish dealing with one situation, another one is brewing.
The storms of life are inevitable. We will have to face them. However, we must realize that we can’t face them alone. We need our Help. He is our cover and protection. Psalms 46:1 says “God is our refuge and strength, a verypresent help in trouble.” God is waiting on us to call on him so that he can rescue us. He is a very present help. That means right in the moment of your storm, his help is available to you.
When we are put in desperate situations, it causes us to do desperate things. Instead of trying to take action and control of your situation, give it over to him. Pray this simple prayer, “Lord, I need your help.” Watch God step in and be your refuge. Watch God give you strength that you didn’t know you had. Watch God become your help.
